San Antonio Central Library Featured in new “Lone Star Libraries” Series Spotlight from Texas Center for the Book
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Austin, TX – The San Antonio Central Library is the latest library featured in the Lone Star Libraries quarterly series from the Texas Center for the Book. These spotlights showcase and celebrate exceptional libraries across the state with videos and articles exploring their collections and exhibits. The Center hopes Texans and tourists alike will be inspired to check out these Lone Star gems.
Known popularly as the “Enchilada Library” because of its signature color, the San Antonio Central Library, designed by renowned Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta, opened to the public in 1995. A contest run by the San Antonio Express-News asked readers to suggest a name for the vivid color, and “Enchilada Red” won. The striking architecture, two-story glass sculpture by famed artist Dale Chihuly and first-floor Art Walk featuring a bronze horse sculpture by Fernando Botero make this library a must-see for San Antonio residents and visitors.
It’s also the flagship location of the San Antonio Public Library System. The system comprises 30 locations, including the Central Library, the Kampmann Library Portal at the Briscoe Western Art Museum and a library partnership with Roosevelt High School. The system delivers library services to approximately 1.9 million residents in San Antonio and Bexar County.
Also worth checking out: the lovely Landa Branch Library (located at 233 Bushnell Ave., San Antonio), part of the San Antonio Public Library System. It’s located inside a beautiful historic home in the Monte Vista Historical District, a short drive away from the San Antonio Central Library.
